Decades of passion for wines and great vine vocation of the “Al Molino Gualtieri” agricultural enterprise terrains have enabled the creation of the new Cantina Altarocca winery. The new winery is located on the slopes of the Rocca Ripesena spur of volcanic tufa, less than five kilometres from the historic town of Orvieto.
In the production process, only grapes coming from the vineyards belonging to the enterprise are used. These vineyards extend to 9 hectares in the core of the Orvieto Classico area, at the altitude of 350m, on terrains rich in clay and tufa and with an ideal exposure to the sun.
Use of the best and the most advanced equipment that modern enology can boast, along with meticulous application of hundreds of years of wine making techniques, are the characteristics that make Cantina Altarocca a balanced blend of technology and traditions. Only selected grapes at the desired point of ripening are picked manually and taken to the winery in small cases in order to guarantee whole bunches. Once at the winery, the grapes are further selected before pressing.
The grown varieties are Merlot, Cabernet and Sangiovese for the red wines, and Procanico, Malvasia, Grechetto, Drupeccio and Chardonnay for the white wines.
Four wines are produced under the expert supervision of dr. Maurilio Chioccia: two white wines of IGT (Typical Geographic Indication) standard Umbria, arcosesto and albaco and three red ones, of IGT (Typical Geographic Indication) standard Umbria, librato, lavico and Rosso d’Altarocca
The Cantina Altarocca wine production is one of the many activities carried out by the Ceprini family, that has been involved for years in the management of the La Rocca Orvieto farming enterprise.
